Office of the Chairman·

Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, has been honoured with the Rootswatch Distinguished Local Government Chairmen Merit Award 2026 in recognition of his administration's achievements in infrastructure development.

The award was presented on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, during the Rootswatch Magazine Award Conferment, Presentation of Prizes and Launching Ceremony.

Representing Comrade Dauda at the event was the Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Adeyinka Illo, who received the award on his behalf and delivered his acceptance speech. He was accompanied by the Head of Department for Information, Alhaja Dosunmu.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Dauda described the recognition as one that belongs not to him alone, but to the entire people of Ikeja — including the dedicated workforce, political leaders, traditional institutions, community stakeholders, and everyone who has contributed to the transformation and development of the local government. He noted that the award serves as an encouragement to remain focused on delivering quality infrastructure, people-oriented programmes, and sustainable development across Ikeja's communities.

The Chairman sincerely thanked the management of Rootswatch Magazine for finding his administration's modest efforts worthy of the prestigious honour, assuring the good people of Ikeja that the recognition will inspire the administration to do even more in the collective pursuit of progress and excellence.
